Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Uphoto has been at it's current location for nearly 20 years. Operations began in the summer of 1991 from a simple home darkroom. We leased our current shop and began remodeling the space in the fall of 1992 and opened for business in February 1993.
What is your primary product or service?
We provide digitally produced photographic prints and fine art Giclee reproductions to photographers, artists, everyday consumers and businesses with photographic needs. We also provide matting and framing services, on-line image galleries with order fulfillment and other internet related services.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My interest in photography began as a hobby in my high school years and turned into a life long passion in my senior year when I started working professionally as a photographer. I found that I was always more comfortable working in the darkroom part of the business, and eventually started a small lab operation in my parents garage. I then worked in a commercial lab for four years before starting my first full time lab business in 1977. I have worked in the lab business continuously till this day.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We offer a level of quality that is difficult for other labs to match. Since we are a small lab, we offer personalized service to each customer.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location with no plans to expand.
